Both Gruau and Villemont are considered among the great French poster artists. Rene Gruau (1909-2004) bridged French posters with modern advertising. As a graphic designer he produced high fashion posters for Dior, Givenchy, Vichy and Moulin Rouge as well as ads for Air France, Cinzano and Masserati. Bernard Villemot (1911-1989) designed more contemporary posters for Bally, Orangina, Perrier and a large number of tourist posters for several French cities. Gruau and Villemot’s original posters are very collectible and represent some of the most iconic images of vintage poster history. |
